Outreach

In May 2024, I was invited to give the headline talk at the local branch of the Astronomy on Tap (AoT) lecture event. AoT invites local researchers and professionals to deliver free presentations on various space science topics to help raise public interest and understanding.
The goal of my talk was to explain Neutron Stars and their importance in our universe, as well as why we continue to study them. After the event, I was also invited to give the same talk to the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society, which I did in November of 2024.

Recruiting
I have frequently assisted the Physics & Astronomy Chair of Outreach and Engagement, Mimi LaValle, by staffing the departmental recruiting booth at various events, such as Eye of the Tiger and Destination LSU.
This provided the chance to engage with countless prospective students of varying ages, and help illuminate to them what sets our department apart from others on campus and the opportunities it can open up!
As a result of my volunteering, I was awarded the Department Service Award in Spring 2024, pictured to the left.

Peer Mentor
In Fall 2024, I was selected to be a Peer Mentor for LSU’s SCI 1001 - Becoming a Scientist course, assisting Dr. Jane Reiland in her section.
The responsibilities of this role were numerous. In addition to helping during lectures; I was also responsible for grading written reflections, consulting with students, and providing suggestions for the betterment of the course. Mentoring the course enabled me to give advice and guidance to these incoming freshmen that I wish I would have received when first starting at LSU.
I was invited to be an exhibitor with the Startorialist group at the 243rd meeting of the American Astronomical Society in New Orleans. This convention is the largest meeting of astronomers in the world, held every January, and our booth was one of the most popular on the floor, giving me the opportunity to network with countless professionals in the field, including representatives from NASA, StarSpec Technologies, Lockheed Martin, and more.
It also provided an invaluable experience to investigate the current standing of astronomy, astrophysics, and aerospace engineering. I attended talks covering a variety of topics, such as instrumentation on Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, observations of dust & star formation, and the application of international law to space.
